How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb After Rocking The Mic So Hard
Ok. First, the new U2 is going to be really good. I am a U2 geek and will be for a long time to come. Not only is it a cool title (How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb), but the single "Vertigo" kicks. Come on you indie scenesters, give U2 a third chance.
Second, I like playing rock music and having other people enjoy that is the icing on the proverbial cake. Our show this past Friday was great fun and it was partly because it was new and mostly because there were a bunch of people there who really wanted to hear music.
Here's a few play-by-plays from the show:
#1 The set list:
Paul
Defend You
Breathing Room
Country Star
Mary
Los Angeles/Stand By Me
Open*
Radiation
Teenage Bible
Weird*
*songs from our first album Squeaky Clean
#2 The Stuff:
Steve, in a fit of rock and roll passion, drops his pick moments before a solo on Breathing Room. After the show, alert rock guitar icon Jose says he almost intervened and handed me a pick. Luckily Steve was able to retrieve his pick by pretending he had to adjust his distortion pedal...
Somewhere in the first three songs someone in the band remembers to tune their instrument. No names will be mentioned here as it would incriminate someone.
A Pushstart Wagon first: acoustic guitar. That's right. For the first time on stage, an acoustic guitar in all of its glory was premiered for THREE songs. Mary, Los Angeles, and Radiation.
You might have also noticed a laptop and keyboard (both working together in perfect harmony).
Dan played those. You'll meet Dan sometime soon. Elliot C. played lead guitar. You might remember him from Pushstart Wagon Mach II in the late 90s. He's back and dressed to kill.
If you were at the show feel free to add your thoughts of the highlights or long awkward moments that we've already blocked out. If you weren't there feel free to add your thoughts on what might have happened had you been there. This is getting very Butterfly Effect.
Signing off.
p.s. We need to give mad props to all the bands that opened (and even those NOT on the schedule who rocked, like The boys in The Earlies and Tom Racer...and a certain former lead guitar player of Pushstart named Jon...)
